The Brien Holden Vision Institute is an Australian company dedicated to the advancement of eye care research, education and industry. Over 20 years the Institute has contributed to some of the best in Australian eye care, and has grown to be a major participant and supporter of Australian eye care research and education organisations.
The Brien Holden Vision Institute is a major collaborator and core partner with Vision CRC. The Vision CRC gives the Institute the opportunity to work with world leaders in exciting new research and education programmes.

BASCOM PALMER
The Internationally acclaimed Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is committed to the protection and preservation of sight. The Institute's full-time faculty of internationally-respected physicians and scientists are skilled in every ophthalmic subspecialty.
The Institute serves as the Department of ophthalmology for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida, and is recognised as one of the world's finest and most progressive centres for ophthalmic care, research and education.
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute continues to be rated as one of the nation's best ophthalmic hospitals by board-certified ophthalmologists from across the United States. This year, US News & World Report's survey of randomly selected ophthalmologists rated Bascom Palmer the premier eye hospital in the country.
Since its founding in 1962, Bascom Palmer has nurtured an internationally-acclaimed faculty. The Institute’s continuing legacy is more than four decades of pioneering work that has revolutionised the way numerous ophthalmic conditions are diagnosed and treated. Bascom Palmer Eye Institute physicians specialise in at least one area of ophthalmic care and has completed fellowship training in one or more subspecialties. More than half of the Institute's faculty members are listed in the respected and comprehensive medical referral book, Best Doctors in America.
LV PRASAD EYE INSTITUTE (LVPEI)
L V Prasad Eye Institute is a world-class eye hospital, research institute, and training centre located in Hyderabad, India.
Its mission is to provide excellent and equitable eye care to all in a caring and compassionate manner.
The Institute's six areas of focus are:
- comprehensive patient care
- sight enhancement and low vision rehabilitation
- community eye health
- clinical research
- education and training programmes
- product development.
LVPEI is one of the few institutes with an exclusive facility for visually impaired children, including newborns and infants. Its Vision Rehabilitation Centre, the first of its kind in Asia, trains children and adults with incurable low vision in the use of low-cost optical and non-optical visual aids.
Development of human resources is imperative for developing countries. LVPEI is an acclaimed education center for eye care personnel at all levels - post-doctoral ophthalmology fellows and practicing ophthalmologists, as well as optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, nurses, bio-medical technicians and eye care administrators.
LVPEI also has a state-of-the-art eye bank which collects, stores and distributes donor corneas for transplantation and research. In addition, LVPEI has initiated the development of several affordable eye care products, such as preservation medium for corneal tissues and rehabilitation devices for low vision patients.
In the 20 years since the Institute's establishment it has provided outpatient services to over 2 million people and surgical care to over 250,000 patients - almost 50 percent of them receiving services free of charge. In addition, LVPEI has trained over 10,000 doctors and para-medical personnel from India and abroad, and made over 1700 research presentations at national and international meetings.
Fundamental to LVPEI efforts is the generous support received from individuals, institutions and the eye care industry, from all over the world, who have shared the LVPEI dream. The Institute is managed by two not-for-profit trusts, the Hyderabad Eye Institute and Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation, which are registered under the Society Act.
AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH ORGANISATION (CSIRO)
CSIRO contributes integral research and development services to the Vision cooperative Research Centre (VCRC) in both the VCRC's Dynamic Vision-Gel (DV-Gel) and Onlay projects. The outcomes of those projects have since been commercialised by the VCRC through its exclusive license to the new Delaware incorporated spin-out Adventus Technology Inc (Adventus).
CSIRO is a non-core participant in the VCRC, and provides R&D services to it through its Division of Molecular & Health Science Technologies. Formed in 1926 and employing around 6500 staff, CSIRO is Australia's premier research organisation and has a long track-record of breakthrough technologies. CSIRO partners with other parties and uses its multi-disciplinary scientific capability through a variety of models. Its contribution of capability through the VCRC to Adventus Technology is a just one example. With more than 160 existing companies founded on CSIRO technology and many others utilising CSIRO innovations, CSIRO has become one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world.
Working in collaboration with the VCRC's outstanding blend of biological and clinical scientists over the last 15 years, CSIRO's participation represents a substantial technical advantage for the DV-Gel and Onlay projects and differentiates the technology underpinning Adventus' opportunity to deliver market-leading ophthalmic products.
